It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I just completed a “fun with my car week…not!” It all started Monday morning around 3:11 while leaving my driveway. As I started toward the road I had to stop. The car’s headlights that automatically come on when it’s dark didn’t come on.  I’m thinking, this ain’t good, and it wasn’t. I then started messing with the manual light control and nothing came on. Thankfully my high beams worked so I was able to drive to the station but probably freaked out a bunch of other drivers when I did the curtsey thing and turned my high beams off only to disappear with no other lights coming their way. I’m glad I didn’t get pulled over. Not that I wouldn’t have a good excuse for no headlights it’s just it would slow my start to the day which has to begin ready or not at 6 am and to be ready I have a few things to prepare before I can say good morning. I will say it’s the first time I have ever had two headlights go out on me at the same time. Usually it’s one or the other not both so I thought the worst, possible electrical problem. One of our account executive’s Bob Tuckish said I should check the fuses and relays as the possible culprit. Thankfully You Tube is here to help because my owner’s manual had no info and the back of the fuse box cover had no useful information either. Turns out I really needed two new low beam bulbs which looked like little candles. You Tube even showed how to replace them. Well it worked, got my lights back and was a happy camper until driving home on Thursday afternoon. It turned out that my “fun with my car week …not” wasn’t quite over yet. I’m leaving the Rostraver shopping center on Rt. 51 heading north when I noticed the air conditioning wasn’t blowing cold air anymore. Then a little “sail boat” idiot light comes on and I’m thinking, am I low on coolant? Am I overheating? Then my battery light comes on and thoughts of me possibly just running on the battery and not the alternator popped in my head. So I pull over and saw plenty of coolant in the reservoir and the battery, well it looked like a battery would so I’m thinking alternator. No but I was close. The serpentine belt that goes around the alternator and around the water pump was gone. I guess the belts only good for about 122,222 miles of spinning and since the car had only 17 miles on it when I bought it I apparently got my moneys worth. Thankfully I just renewed my AAA membership and they had a tow truck their in about 45 minutes. I called the Ford dealership in White Oak that I was heading their way. Long story short my “fun with my car week …not” from the headlights to the new belt cost almost $300.00.  Except for the mileage my cars in great shape but it makes me wonder how many more “fun with my car weeks…not” I have to look forward to. I’ll let you know.
