…and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s all all Bill Cosby’s fault that people are up in arms about the Christmas song “Baby it’s Cold outside”. It’s gotten so bad that the movie Elf may be next to be banned because Will Ferrel and Zooey Deschanel sing their own version of “Baby its Cold Outside” that some say has questionable lyrics. I finally had time and looked up the questionable lyrics to see what was so bad about the song and came to the conclusion that it’s all Bill Crosby’s fault. It’s the line, “What’s in this Drink”? It comes right after the woman agrees to maybe just a half drink more, so obviously she knows what she’s been drinking and how it tastes but was told to “put some records on while I pour.” A distraction? Could be because now she questions, “What’s in this drink..” You know its something that my mother warned me about when I was growing up. She would always say,”make sure nobody slips you a mickey.” She grew up during the big band era and that’s how people talked back in the day. She would have been around 25 years old in 1944 when the song was brand new and apparently pretty street wise. I’m guessing she and everyone else from that era would have heard the line “What’s in this Drink” and realize what it meant and take it as a warning, “make sure nobody slips you a mickey”case closed. And you know what? It was until Bill Cosby. Nobody questioned the song until after learning about the Bill Cosby accusations of slipping something into the drinks of unsuspecting women which allegedly was Cosby’s MO. And now you’ve got a Christmas classic since 1944 that may have been a warning is now considered a Date Rape song. Once again, thank you Bill Cosby.
