It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and February 1st will mark 9 years since the Steelers last won the Superbowl when they had to come from behind after building a halftime lead to beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-20. It was all Steelers all the time in the first half which was capped off when James Harrison showed why he was the AP’s Defensive player of the year when he picked off Curt Warner for a 100 yard interception return for a touchdown. And despite the fact that Harrison is returning to the Big Game this Sunday but as a Patriot, that pick six ranks right up there with some of the greatest plays in Steelers if not Superbowl History. Consider the Cardinals were poised to either tie the game at 10 or go into halftime with a 14-10 lead. But the Steelers heroics were far from over in the 2nd half where Arizona held Pittsburgh to a Jeff Reed Field goal in the 3rd quarter. Then in the 4th with the Steelers leading 20-7 the Cardinals rattled off 16 unanswered points that was punctuated with a Curt Warner 64 yard touchdown pass to former Pitt star Larry Fitzgerald that gave Arizona a 23-20 lead with just 2:37 left to play in the game. Turns out that was plenty of time for Big Ben and the offense to go to work and work they did by meticulously marching 78 yards down the field to take the lead. The game winner was a 6 yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the back corner of the end zone who said his feet never left the ground but used his toes that were in bounds as an extension to catch the ball before falling out of bounds with just 35 seconds left on the clock. Santonio who caught 9 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown including 4 receptions for 73 yards on that final game winning drive was named the MVP. The play by play for Superbowl 43 was done by Al Micheals who will also be calling this Sundays game which will be his 10th Superbowl appearance behind the microphone tying the mark set by the legendary Pat Summerall.
