It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and does it feel like their will be an all National League world series this year because of Houston being in it? I know Houston is in the American League but that only recently happened. In fact the Astros spent 52 years in the National League. They only jumped ship in 2013. The Astros weren’t even the Astros when they joined the National League in 1962. The Astros began playing baseball as the Colt .45’s during their first three years of existence but decided to change their name when the space program started grabbing the nation’s attention and the city of Houston became the control center for NASA. Next thing you know the Colt .45’s are now the Astros and playing ball in the worlds first domed sports stadium and what was once referred to as the 8th wonder of the world called the Astrodome. But now they play in a park named after a beverage and referred to as the ‘strohs. Both of which, when you think about it could be served at the game along with the peanuts, popcorn and Cracker Jack. The Astros are no stranger to the World Series but that was when they were in the National League and lost in four games to the Chicago White Sox back in 2005. So here they are again back in the World Series but as an American not National league team to play the Dodgers who may have caused the same kind of dilemma for sports fans in 1957 that I’m having today. The Dodgers were once in the American League but that was when they were in Brooklyn. But not only did the Dodgers jump from the American League to the National League the team also moved from Brooklyn to LA. So when you think about it, this years World Series will feature a team that was in the National League but is now in the American League and a team that was in the American League but is now in the National League. Join me next time when I try and figure out, Who’s on First.
