It’s the Kielbasa Kid and if I were Le’Veon Bell…

…I’d skip the start of training camp next Thursday.  Bell said he’s game planning and will take it day to day and see what happens which tells me that he’s thinking “do I really need to go thru those 2 a days in that hot August heat of Latrobe?” Really, after the season ends these guys may take a couple of weeks off but that’s it. They work out all year long to stay in shape and be competitive when another season starts. Unless you’re a rookie, all you need is a couple of weeks to get back into the flow of things. So why endure those hot sticky dog days at training camp when he could show up after the first preseason game to start working on timing. Most of the starters will barely break a sweat in that Aug 11th game against the Giants anyway and may only play into the 2nd quarter of the 2nd preseason game. They don’t start playing for real until the 3rd preseason game and then shut it down in the 4th one. I really don’t see the rush for a seasoned pro who, if not for injuries is the reason why the Steelers got to the AFC Championship game. That’s another thing, injuries. Here’s hoping that’s finally behind him. So really what does he have to lose by missing the start of camp? He’s got 12.1 million once he signs his franchise tender and isn’t obligated to report till he does. So to me no big deal if he’s a no show next Thursday in Latrobe and besides playing on a one year deal would be great motivation to pad that already excellent resume especially if it helps lead the Steelers to an AFC Championship win and Superbowl victory.
