It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and with another concert season in full swing A new survey from Price4Limo found that over 10% of fans are willing to travel 500 or more miles to see their favorite musician! I’m willing to bet most of the 10% are Dead Heads. The furthest I’ve ever traveled was 380 miles and that was to an all day event with several big acts. I was living in Charlottesville Va. and traveled to Wheeling where we hooked up with some friends and then drove to a place called Legend Valley. The show featured Todd Rundgren and Utopia, the Cars, Cheap Trick, Eddie Money and various other wannabe superstars. Legend Valley was sort of like Star Lake but a lot more primitive, think Woodstock and it was located off I-70 at the Rt 13 exit between Cambridge and Columbus Ohio. Parking opened at 1am, gates opened at 7am and the show began at noon under a hot July Sun with hardly any concessions. Needless to say we survived. Now instead of mileage I think a better question would be how many hours would you be willing to spend in your car heading to a concert. The legend valley journey was about 6 and a half hours, which to hear some people say is the amount of time they spend in the car trying to get to a concert at star lake. Now I’ve been stuck in traffic going to the Burgettestown venue before but no 6 ½ hours stuck, 6 but not 6 ½. I kid, that only happens during rush hour on the parkway. While leaving early to some shows may not be an option, ever since the venue opened in the early 90’s a show at Star Lake is an all day event for me. I get there as gates open, find a spot, preferably near the woods or right up against it, fire up the grill break open a cold one and watch the traffic and the crowd slowly trickle in. After the show we would walk the Star Lake hillside looking for blankets that you wouldn’t believe people left behind because they were in such good shape. Then we head back to the parking lot break out a lawn chair and watch the traffic and crowd slowly trickle out until there is no line to get into. So no 6 ½ hour ride home. That only happens on the parkway during rush hour traffic.
