It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and after seeing the billowing blue smoke rising to the skies from more than a few back yards and state parks over the Memorial Day weekend signaling the first of what will be many cookouts and picnic’s this season. For me it was a weekend that for the first time I realized I was saying picnic wrong. I’ve been I radio for like forever; I’ve been in radio so long that I could have applied to be Nikolai Tesla’s intern. He was the guy who gave Marconi an idea that eventually turned into an industry called broadcasting. Wonder what their thoughts would be about streaming? I’d bet they’d have their own pod cast’s. Anyway, I hooked up with a former broadcast associate of mine and he started laughing when I said picnic. Instead of saying Pick-Nick- I was saying Pitt-Nick. It took a few minutes until I realized he was right. It reminded me of another former broadcast associate of mine who is no longer with us. Jack Maloy. He and I did a Steelers Pre-game show back in the day live outside 3 rivers stadium and this was before the station we worked for even have the broadcast rights to the game. Talk about a couple of Mavericks. It was then he pointed out that fact that I was saying Field Goal wrong. Instead of saying Field Goal I was saying Field Gold. Yeah Gold. Maybe I should have applied to be Nikolai Tesla’s intern. Of course, I could be in select company when you consider the late Wilfred Brimley’s warning about “Die-ah-beat-us”.
