It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I could be wrong but I got a feeling renaming the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians is going to go over as well as the New Coke did in 1985. Since when is the name Indian racist? Didn’t they already get rid of Chief Wahoo? Are you saying Indians were not indigenous to Cleveland? I can see the name Redskin as being racist but Indian? Look it up
Native Americans are known as American Indians.  www.indians.org/articles/american-indians.html. Cleveland is even in the American league. Isn’t the ball club using the name Indians paying respect to a proud  people? I just don’t get it. Is calling yourself the Pirates being disrespectful to real Pirates? Is calling yourself Giants being disrespectful to really big people? Is calling yourself a Padre disrespectful to the clergy? Is calling yourself the Twins disrespectful to people being produced in the same pregnancy? And what about the Cowboys? Is that derogatory too?  The Cleveland Guardians?  They go from being named after a proud Native American people to a Guardian of Traffic. According to Wikipedia the name references the eight monolithic 1932 Art Deco sculptures by Henry Hering gracing the city of Cleveland’s Hope Memorial Bridge, which is adjacent to Progressive field. I’m sorry, maybe I’m just being ignorant because I don’t mean to be disrespectful in what I feel but I just honestly don’t get it and this rant comes from a Pirates fan with no skin in the game. I’m just baffled..
