It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

and man is the 2021 version of the Pittsburgh Pirates providing us and the rest of the baseball world a season’s worth of highlights to remember or what? Unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. Just over a week ago rookie first baseman Will Craig did something that nobody can remember ever seeing when he could have simply stepped on 1st base to make a final out but instead chased the runner Javier Baez of Chicago back to home plate and then tossed the ball to the catcher who knew all he needed to do to complete the out was to throw to the guy who at this point was covering 1st base for Craig but he threw the ball wide allowing Baez to get back to first and also allowed a runner to score and the inning to continue. Then the other night rookie third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes did something that probably happened before but it is a rare occurrence and thanks to instant replay it did not go unnoticed. Hayes hits a home run but while rounding the bases he didn’t touch the first one and after further review the home run ended up being an out. Pirates manager Derek Shelton said. “They’re two plays I’ve never seen before,” Well Derek, they say stuff happens in three’s so what’s the betting line on who will be next to…pun intended…step up to the plate. The Pirates chances of ending the season in 1st place may be slim to none but they are providing the baseball world a chance to see plenty of firsts but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.
