It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…so the word out on the street is that some people are preparing their plate for Cicadas in some parts of the country this summer. I’m sorry I do not find bugs appetizing. Sure some folks may like chocolate covered grasshoppers but I for one will pass. Cicadas remind me of mashed potatoes. No they do not look like mashed potatoes but if processed correctly they do and I will never forget that thanks to one summer growing up in Weirton West Virginia. Because of Cicada’s I could not eat mashed potatoes that summer. It was a summer during my childhood that we experienced the 17 year invasion of the Cicada and they were everywhere. We were so overrun that summer that I remember being in a field with a bunch of my friends, tennis rackets in hand, swatting away the low flying projectiles who if processed properly with said tennis racket ended up looking like mashed potatoes. And while we may not be under attack this summer there are other parts of the country that will be experiencing the invasion and in preparation somehow decided to conjure up Cicada delights. They say Cicada’s are high in iron, proteins and zinc. I’m sorry I’m not going to eat something that according to the warnings could kill my dog and my dog will eat anything. Never once have I entertained the idea of having a deep fried or even chocolate covered Cicada. They say they taste like shrimp. Really, if I’m craving shrimp I’ll eat shrimp. Actually, when you think of it, I eat a lot of what you could call bugs but they crawl along the ocean floor. These bugs are known as shell fish and come in the form of Crab, Lobster or Shrimp and when processed properly, none of them look like mashed potatoes, but  the Cicada does, when processed properly with a tennis racket.
