It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…so can we talk Steelers football? Is that alright? Talk about brutal and just what you would expect whenever the Ravens and Steeler’s go head to head. Talk about ugly. Body’s being strewn about, miscues on both sides of the ball but in the end you knew the Steelers had to win it. You didn’t know if they would win it but you knew they had to win. Not only did it gives them nice separation over Baltimore in the division and keeps the Champagne on ice in Miami after improving to 7-0 but because the Steelers rematch with the Ravens will be in Pittsburgh on Thanksgiving and the Steelers suck on Thanksgiving. The Steeler’s couldn’t afford two losses to the Ravens and it would practically be a given in their rematch. The Steelers are just 2 and 6 on Thanksgiving. Their first win came in 1950 beating the Chicago Cardinals and their last came in 2016 beating the Colts for their first turkey day win in 66 years! Pittsburgh’s biggest turkey was the Thanksgiving day Massacre in 1983 when they went into Detroit with a 9-3 record against the 6-6 Lions and were devoured 45-3. The other Thanksgiving Turkey was in 1998. The infamous Phi Luckett coin flip. After playing a sloppy game and blowing a 13-3 lead in the 4th quarter Detroit forced overtime. Steeler’s running back Jerome Bettis called tails. The coin falls tails but the referee Phil Lucket awarded the ball to the Lions. He said he heard Jerome say Heads. The Steeler’s last Thanksgiving Day loss was against the Ravens as time was expiring Big Ben hits Heath Miller for a 19 yard TD but it was overturned on replay. Then LeVeon Bell ran it in but it too overturned by replay. Then two plays later Big Ben connects with Jericho Cotchery but the 2 point conversion fails and they lose the 2013 Thanksgiving game to Baltimore 22-20. So despite how ugly it was the Steelers did enough to win yesterday. And you know what? Pittsburgh could very well still be undefeated before this Thanksgiving rematch with the Ravens. Between now and then Pittsburgh plays Dallas, Cincinnati and Jacksonville who all have a combined win total of 5. It’s not a gimmie but it’s possible the Steelers could be 10-0 before the rematch with Baltimore. But again that rematch is on Thanksgiving and why Pittsburgh really had to win yesterday because it’s all about Thanksgiving.
