…and I’m not sure if it satisfied those of us who may not be captivated by The Tiger King on Netflix but maybe those of us craving for sports this past weekend at least as they say, it was the thought that counts. Pittsburgh fans were able to relive a couple of historical moments. Sunday night on You Tube they replayed Super bowl XLIII between the Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. Channel 11 gave hockey fans a chance to watch the over 2 hour Penguins Stanley Cup Victory Parade on Saturday night and whenever on their Website. And the local sports station last week gave Pirate fans a chance to relive the 1960 World Series with a recreation of the game featuring The Gunner himself Bob Prince and Jim Woods or better know to fans back then as the Possum. Now, I don’t know if it is the same recreation that I recorded off another local station out of Pittsburgh back in 1987 but this past Saturday I broke out the cassette tapes and listened to it again. Some of the comments that were made included how there were more fans outside of Forbes Field than inside the ball park that could hold little over 36 thousand. And when the Yankees erased a 4-1 lead in the in top of the 6th to make it 5-4 then came up with 2 more in their half of the 8th to make it 7-4 Jim Woods commented that “its like a funeral parlor outside of Forbes Field” to which Bob Prince says, “yeah but the formaldehyde has yet to set in”. Another interesting fact is Bob Prince didn’t call the game on the radio. He was teamed with Mel Allen for the NBC TV broadcast and Prince never saw the Mazaroski home run. He left the booth for the locker room unaware of how the Buc’s won the game. But thanks to the recreation that was put together back in the early 80’s he was finally able to end it with his famous…”you can kiss it goodbye”! Something I hope we can all say to this virus in the not too distant future.
