It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…so last week I replaced my wife’s car battery which shouldn’t have been a big deal if the battery was easily accessible which it wasn’t but maybe car companies just want to take the fun out of being a shade tree mechanic. This Saturday I’m tooling around in her car when I realize she didn’t fix the pre sets on the radio nor did she put the correct time on the clock. Fixing the pre sets on the radio was no trouble but setting the correct time was an ordeal. It drove me nuts. Every time I thought I had it set it would go back to the wrong time. I tried setting it with the radio on with the radio off but it didn’t matter. The clock kept going back to the wrong time. I guess its just being a guy who refuses to look at a map for directions I kept putting off looking inside the owners Manual for info on how to set the clock until I finally reached my boiling point. I grab the owner’s Manual and looked in the index for clock. There is no section on the clock. I’m thinking if it’s not under clock then what’s it under. Is it under Time? No. Is it under Radio? No. Is it under Instrument Panel? No. What good is an owners Manuel if it doesn’t have directions on how to set the clock? Well, after looking at every possible heading I found it. Under Menu! Are you kidding me, Menu? Couldn’t they at least put Clock in the index with an asterisk next to it with See Menu? Of course it was the menu button I pushed on the dashboard initially to find the clock settings but that was the last thing I thought to look for in the owners Manuel. Turns out the reason I couldn’t set the clock was because I wasn’t patient enough. Apparently if you replace the battery you have to give the clock a few minutes after you entered the correct time so that it can use GPS to set it. GPS! In fact you need GPS to be able to set the correct date too. You know if it needs GPS to set the clock and the date why didn’t GPS just do it automatically when I put in the new battery? I’ll tell you why. Because the car manufactures just want to drive us nuts and force us to go to the dealer and have them do it. I can’t imagine what the labor bill for that would be. And just think I get to go through this all over again in a couple of weeks. Thanks Daylight Savings time!
