It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

….and I never realized that the way we go about opening presents on Christmas is called a gifting tradition and that there were so many different ones. According to a new survey by Spinbrush the number one gifting tradition is actually a tie between opening one present on Christmas eve and allowing one person to distribute gifts from the Christmas tree but right behind that was opening presents at midnight on Christmas. We didn’t start doing that until we got older and only until we came back from Midnight Mass. If there was no Midnight Mass there was no opening of gifts until after church on Christmas morning. That was our number one tradition until we got older and realized who Santa’s elves were. Now Spinbrush listed other traditions that I never grew up with but maybe you did like a White Elephant/ Secret Santa exchange, Gifts for the pets cause I never had a pet growing up and every time I brought a stray home my mom would chase it off. That changed when I got older and would wrap something for the dog to unwrap or chew into. Another gifting tradition that was listed was having a specific order of opening gifts. No never did that nor did we have to play a game before opening gifts or writing little hints on the wrapping paper. Another gifting tradition that was listed was no one can see the tree Christmas morning until everyone is up. Again not in our house besides the tree was always up weeks before Christmas morning so what’s the big deal? But those are some of the gifting traditions that we go through each and every year and all this time I thought the tradition was just opening presents. How could I be so foolish.
