…so what is the big deal with Gender Reveal parties? Is it just another reason to party? I don’t have a problem finding a reason to party especially if a day ends in Y. It used to be enough to celebrate the fact that you were going to have a baby. What started out as a blog in 2008 and spread to you tube and now Instagram and Pinterest gender reveal parties have grown to more than half a million videos of expectant couples slicing cakes, setting off smoke bomb or bashing pinatas to expose one of two colors, pink for girl blue for boy but the steps to do so now have grown substantially and not without consequences as each new reveal party tries to outdo the other. The latest gender reveal party gone badly wrong involved a small plane crashing in Texas after the pilot dumped 350 gallons of pink water. The plane was flying at a low altitude, stalled out and hit the ground because it was going to slow after releasing the pink water. Both Pilot and single passenger survived. Then there was an Iowa woman who wasn’t so lucky when a device that was supposed to send out colored powder instead exploded and was hit with flying metal. Another gender reveal explosion in 2017 sparked a huge wildfire that burned 47,000 acres in Arizona causing 8 million in damage. Would have been a lot cheaper to just have a baby shower but how many hits are you gonna snag on social media for baby shower when you can blow something up in blue or pink!
