It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…the on again off again Woodstock 50 music festival now appears to be off again, this time for good. The New York planning board rejected an appeal for a permit by festival organizers. They were planning to hold it at the Watkins Glenn speedway but the venue pulled out. The organizers moved to try and hold it at Vernon Downs in Vernon when their permit was rejected and now, denied on appeal. The festival was scheduled for August 15th through the 18th but you’ve still got the movie and it’s coming back to the big screen for only one night to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. The documentary will hit theaters on Thursday Aug 15th at 7 pm. This will be the director’s cut which runs 3 hours and 44 minutes with a five-minute intermission after the first two hours and eight minutes of the feature which has over 40 minutes of additional performances. Theaters that will be showing it around here include are all in the Pittsburgh area. South side Works Cinema, Cine-mark Robinson Township and Monroeville Mall. Joni Mitchell who wrote the song Woodstock was asked how she could articulate the emotions of the 1969 Woodstock festival in her song despite having missed the event…and said she was one of the many that were thwarted and said it was the place every kid wanted to be but made it as far as the airport. She was to play on Sunday night but had to do The Dick Cavett Show the following day and there was no way to get her in or out on time so she watched what unfolded on TV and wrote the song from the point of view of a kid going to the festival.
