It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I never thought I would ever see the day where playing video games would be considered a sport. Sure, back in the day I was a gamer when I was first introduced to Pong, I couldn’t get enough of it. Then came Space invaders, Frogger, Pac Man and more. I enjoyed the competition. Doing stuff on the screen that I could never imagine doing in real life on a baseball and football field while never even breaking a sweat. But the games eventually got so complicated they passed me by. Too many buttons on the joy stick. I don’t even think they call them that anymore but I could be wrong. Well, now the state of Alabama will soon officially recognize video games as a varsity high school sport. The National Federation of State High Schools is expected to write rules for video game leagues. Next year kids at 30 high schools in Alabama will get to try out for eSports teams, competing with each other in games such as Rocket League and League of Legends, making video gaming a state-sanctioned inter-school “sport”. Colleges are currently awarding scholarships to outstanding video game players so they can represent them in eSports leagues. I don’t think there are any video Pong leagues but if there are I’ll be ready.
