It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I never thought of Marijuana as a performance enhancing drug in the physical sense of performance and figured any athlete who would use it before a game would find himself at a huge disadvantage. But I saw a story about former NFL defensive lineman Shawn Smith who previously said he smoked the giggle weed before games and I don’t think he’s talking about Madden Football, but now has come out and said he “had a little ritual: Smoke two blunts before every game. He said “When I smoke, I can focus and actually do the job that I have to do and the tasks,” Smith said. It’s like I’m in the Zone. I feel like nobody can stop me and when I was out there it mellowed me out and got me going and its the best thing for me.” Since he was never busted for the hippie lettuce he was never subject to random drug tests and only had to pee in the cup once a year and said all players know when that is going to be. You know it would be one thing if this guy had a distinguished career in the NFL but he spent more time being signed and released since hooking up as a rookie free agent in Dallas in 2003. The longest he stayed with any one team was two years and that was with the Bengals and one with the Browns and neither have a clue as to what their doing anyway. But he did manage to eek out a 10 year journey man career by spending a minute or two with the Cards, Saints, Lions, Chiefs and Titans. So as far as Marijuana being a performance enhancing drug, sorry I ain’t buying it. Meanwhile former running back Rickey Williams who can point to reefer as to why his NFL career was cut short has probably the greatest quote of all time when he blamed pot for his failed drug tests. He was quoted as saying, “I got high and forgot I wasn’t supposed to get high.”
