Now after trying for more than 50 years the state is one step closer to passing a bill to allow local municipalities the right to let their police departments to use Radar Guns. Since 1962 only state troopers have been allowed to use them and Pennsylvania is the only state that prevents its use by local police. Right now the only way you can be issued a ticket by a local cop would be if they used what’s called VASCAR which times how long it takes a vehicle to go from one marked point to the other. There are those who say that if the bill passes watch out for speed traps on roads where posted speed limits suddenly drop providing a huge cash cow for local governments who will justify its use by citing it as a safety concern.
