It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…thinking about the first and last Hurricane that I actually experienced which was no where near Texas, the Florida Coast or the outer banks. In fact it was where you wouldn’t expect to experience a Hurricane and that was in Hartford Connecticut not exactly a coastal city when Hurricane Gloria barreled up the east coast back in 1985. It formed on September 16 and by September 27th it hit Long Island New York and later western Connecticut. It was the first significant hurricane to affect New England since Hurricane Donna in 1960 but by the time it made its way near Hartford the winds died down to around 82 mph but caused $91 million in damages state wide, leaving 727 thousand without power and downing thousands of trees in its path, which contributed to two of three deaths. I remember one tree slammed right into the roof of a garage behind the radio station from where I was broadcasting from that afternoon. So I can’t imagine what could possibly await anyone sitting in the path of Hurricane Irma whose packing winds of 185 mph and listed as a Category 5 storm, there is no Category 6. Meanwhile you can find a place on the foreverpittsburgh.com home page where you can get information on how you can help in the relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey and soon information on Hurricane Irma. Plus we are honoring First Responders this month so if you know a Police man, Firefighter, Emt, Ambulance driver or someone you feel needs to be recognized for their heroic work let us know by calling our business office at 724-938-2000 ext 208.
