…and I totally enjoyed Super Wild Card Weekend. Talk about football heaven, 3 games on Saturday and 3 games on Sunday. I would have enjoyed it more if the Steelers Browns game wasn’t the last one of the weekend. Maybe if I had a 9 to 5 job it wouldn’t be such a big deal but having to start my day 3 hours after a game ends just wasn’t going to cut it. So saving a vacation day for such an occasion was worth taking a day off for but never in my wildest dreams thought it would be to try and understand what I had just witnessed the night before. If it was to see how many times you could embarrass yourself in prime time then mission accomplished. Are you sure it was the Browns who had their facilities shut down due to Covid and couldn’t practice last week? I guess you really don’t need too much practice to enjoy turnovers and man were the Steelers serving them up, piping hot literally from the first snap of the game. At one point I began to wonder if the NFL ever used the no mercy rule. Could you imagine how ugly it would have been if you had tickets to the game and spent the afternoon tailgating around Heinz Field getting your game face on. I could remember many a prime time game that former Steelers head Coach Bill Cowher used to encouraging fans to do just that, get primed for the game and be as vocal as possible. Oh, we would have been vocal Sunday night. What an end to a season that began with so much promise. To think the Steelers won 11 straight to start the season but since a loss to Washington on December 7th they finish with a 1-5 record marking their 3rd collapse in a row. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve got turnovers on the menu.
