…and we lost a lot of people this year due to Covid 19 and due to Covid I also lost a friend who I un-followed on Face book who was such a denier that he asked. “Do you know anybody who died from Covid 19”? At the time I didn’t but I knew this was no Hoax. This was serious. Over the weekend I lost the first person I knew due to Covid 19. I got a Direct Message Saturday morning at 6:22 that said Hello Phil. This is Mary Jo Chisler, I’m Joel’s wife. Last night we lost Joel to Covid 19. I just felt the need to reach out to you and tell you how much you mean to him. Thank you for your years of friendship and support. He always loved his old WDVE family and that free spirited time in his life. It brought him so much joy to have you keeping a little bit of that time alive. Needless to say that shook me. I remember the first time I heard about Joel Chisler. It was the first time I met him. I was working the DVE morning show with Scott Paulsen and Jim Krenn and in comes this wackadoddle wearing a suit with buttons and pins and anything else that doesn’t belong on a guy wearing a suit. Scott went on to introduce him as Joel Chisler, a guy he saw in the parking lot before a Steeler’s game sitting in the back seat of a convertible wearing a suit with buttons and pins and anything else that didn’t belong on a guy wearing a suit with his feet propped up playing a guitar and singing wacky songs, That was Joel and in tribute to a guy who may not have had any fashion sense or maybe was ahead of his time he sure made me laugh and hopefully you too. I’m paying respects to Uniontown’s own, Joel Chisler this morning….and if you have any memories you would like to share please give me a call and we’ll put it on the air.
