It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I saw a survey by a company called Career Cast who lists the top Ten most stressful jobs and the job I have is listed at number 5. Yeah, Radio and TV Broadcasters have the 5th most stressful job. I guess thinking about what to say between songs can be stressful if you don’t plan what you’re going to say as the song fades. I’ve had more stressful nightmares of not being able to find the next song while the current one ends and my boss is looking over my shoulder wondering what I plan to do next. That can have you waking up in a cold sweat. Probably the most stressful part of this business is wondering if you’ll have a job tomorrow due to the high competition but every broadcaster knew that going into this profession. But thanks to today’s technology a DJ can now be replaced by a computer something companies couldn’t do when I first got into this business. Throw in Covid which has made a lot of jobs hard to hold on to and I can see where the stress level can be fairly high. But on the other hand the love I have doing what I do makes it hard to think of this as actually being a job so for me at least it balances out the stress level. Now, the most stressful job according to Career Cast is “sales person”.  You know I’ve been working with sales people all my life. Their the ones who make sure the lights get turned on and I get paid every two weeks. It takes a special breed to be one and is something that I don’t relish at the pickle, pun intended. But in at number 2 is “cashier” which I could easily see as the most stressful job. At least sales people have a chance to move around while a cashier has to sit or stand in front of that register and deal with us… the public. I don’t want to say it can be tough dealing with the public but I don’t think there would be a word to describe a certain segment of the population called “Karen” if it wasn’t tough. Not sure why the name “Karen” was chosen to describe an ill tempered, loud, obnoxious person but it was and my apologies to all the good Karen’s of the world. It’s not your fault. Hope you have a safe and happy Labor Day and in case your interested here’s the list of the top ten most stressful jobs again according to Career Cast…Most Stressful Jobs
