It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…so next Sunday is Super bowl Sunday between San Francisco and Kansas City and a lot of people will be taking a sick day or vacation day next Monday. The biggest reason will be Super Bowl parties which usually begin before kickoff which wont be until around 6:30 that night and by the time it ends it will be close to 10:00 if the game doesn’t go to overtime. So instead of dragging themselves through the work or school day if they indulged too much or stayed up too late on Super Sunday, they’ll take the day off. But one New York 16-year-old doesn’t think it has to be that way, and has created a petition to have the Super Bowl changed to a Saturday. High school junior Frankie Ruggeri’s Change.org petition calls for next year’s Super Bowl to be on a Saturday, and at last count, it had nearly 50,000 signatures and from the looks of things it will pass that number up big time before kickoff. He argues that more people will watch the game, the NFL will get even more money, and more people would travel to the game if it were on a Saturday. But CNN said the NFL has said in the past that viewership is higher on Sunday evenings which leaves me to ask, how do you know that? How do you know what kind of viewership you would have on a Saturday night when you have never in the last 53 years played the game on a Saturday night? In fact it used to be played as early at 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon but slowly through the years continued to inch it’s way up the clock to where it stands today. Could it be that the TV network that’s carrying the game doesn’t want it on a Saturday night because they don’t have a problem attracting viewers on Saturday as opposed to Sunday. Kind of like a restaurant that always has good business on the weekend never looks forward to Valentines Day falling on the weekend. So, don’t say viewership is higher on Sunday evenings when you’ve never in the history of the Superbowl kicked off the game on Saturday.
