It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I don’t want to say it may be a sign but when Washington Capital goalie Branden Holtby made what many are calling “The Save” thoughts of other so called unbelievable saves came to mind. During game two of their series with Vegas, Holtby made a miraculous save, robbing Alex Tuch of a game tying goal with less than two minutes to play. Instead the Caps won the game 3-2 .Two other saves that are etched into my mind were made by Penguin goalies. The most recent was made by Marc Andre Flurry who’s glove save on Kirk Maltby from point blank range in game 7 against Detroit back in ’09 led the Pens to winning their 3rd Stanley cup and the other was during a playoff game in 1991 when Frank Pietrangelo ,who was a back up goalie for the Pens appeared in his first ever playoff start, made an impossible glove save on New Jersey Devil center Peter Stastny in Game 6 of the Patrick Division semifinals.  The Pens won 4-3 to ensure a game 7 which they won and the rest they say is history. Now I’m not saying “The Save “ will lead to the Caps winning the Stanley Cup for the first time ever but with Washington’s win Saturday night they are definitely in the drivers seat and if they do win the cup, “The Save” will be a part of Washington Capital folk lore for a long long time.
