It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…and I just read a survey that says almost three quarters of Millennial’s admit they have no idea how to change a tire. The survey also found that more than a third of young adults also admitted they would struggle to open the hood of their car. And 63 percent said they have never tried to fix, repair or modify a car they have bought. Does installing an under-dash 8 track car stereo count as modifying a car? How about covering your dashboard with a white shag carpet? I think I was going through a phase but hooking up an 8 track or cassette player is about the only thing I can think of that I did to modify any of the cars that I’ve ever had in my lifetime and that includes installing an Fm car converter. Talk about a device that lasted for about a cup of coffee but was a necessity if you wanted to hear an Fm music station in your car back in the day. Most music stations were on the Am dial and having Fm in the car was an option but by the mid 70’s that was beginning to change. I’m willing to bet most Millennial’s have never even tuned into an Am radio station and probably use their smart phone the way we boomers used a transistor radio back in the day but without blue tooth capability. We would would hook up the Fm car converter to the cars Am radio. Then put the Am dial on a certain frequency that picked up a signal from the Fm car converter which you would use to tune in Fm radio stations. The only bad thing about the converter was that if the station you listened to was in Stereo you could only hear it in Mono but no one cared because you were able to drive around and listen to Fm radio. Sing with me now…no static at all…..Now where’s my Steely Dan?
