…and just in time for Halloween, George Romero is going to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The father of the modern day Zombie will be honored posthumously next Wednesday October 25th. The man who in 1968 gave us the “Night of the Living Dead,” where the opening scene was shot in an Evans city Cemetery and featured Chiller Theaters Chilly Billy Cardilly as a local TV reporter from WIIC, the old channel 11 call letters. Romero passed away this summer from cancer. Now the question is how many Zombies are going to show up during the ceremony or as one Ana Martinez tweets, “I’ve been DYING to know. Meanwhile a “Living Dead” weekend festival starts today in Evans City and will feature Zombie themed events from Ghouls for the Pool, tours of sites used in his movies, the Night of the Living Dead museum. A tribute to honor Romero will be held at the Evans City Cemetery Chapel Sunday morning at 10 am then at 1:30 a Pet Walk of the Living Dead for dogs and cats will take place featuring prizes. Tonight and tomorrow night see the newly restored 4k digital version of “Night of the Living Dead at the Manor theater in Squirrel hill at 10:45 and 11:45. Two screens will be used to show the movie. Russ Streiner who appeared in the opening minutes of the movie telling Barbara they’re coming to get you and his brother Gary will be there along with John Russo, the first ghoul stabbed in the head, Mark Ricci who played the Washington Scientist, and Mr Romero’s wife Suzanne will also be on hand for a ghoulish good time.
