It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…with a story about the Olive Garden’s never ending pasta passes selling on eBay for as much as $1,200. They cost $100 when they sold out in two seconds last week. Two seconds? I thought it was one second. Either way that’s unbelievably quick. I can’t even open a website that fast. Having a chance to enjoy never ending pasta reminds me of the time I worked as a cook at a restaurant in Weirton West Virginia called 1776. Every Wednesday was all you could eat Spaghetti. Along with the pasta you got a salad and garlic bread for just 2 bucks! Of course this was 1973 and 2 bucks went a little further than it does today but still that was a great deal. Needless to say we could always count on being very busy on Wednesdays and extremely busy every other Wednesday because that was payday for folks who worked at Weirton Steel. One day I lost it. We were being crushed with orders for the all you could eat pasta along with all the other items that folks could order on the menu. It got to the point that all I could see was an endless stream of little green orders strung up above my head and when a waitress came in with a few more to hang up I lost it. It was at that moment I let out a yell, grabbed two handfuls of linguini and ran screaming, Nooooooooo out the back door of the kitchen into the back lot. Hey, it felt good letting off a little steam of my own after being surrounded by steaming pots of boiling water. As I made my way back to the kitchen, standing at the doorway was one of the restaurant boss’s, Frank Moitus with his big ole cigar sticking out out of his mouth. He seemed ten feet tall and I was expecting the worse but he didn’t say a word and neither did I as I walked past with pasta in hand. I guess despite my display of craziness he probably figured he’d be the crazy one if he didn’t just let me get back to work considering the endless stream of the little green orders strung up above boiling pots of water in the kitchen with more coming in.
