…glad I don’t have plans to see my son in New Castle this weekend. The Turnpike between Cranberry and New Castle interchanges will be closed starting Friday night at 9 and remain that way till Monday at 4 am causing an 80 mile detour. The only good thing is you wont be taking any back roads and most of the journey will take you to 376, 80 and 79 but officials say there will still be significant delays and while you can now plan ahead if you can’t avoid the area it’s going to suck for folks traveling in from out of town who have no idea what awaits them til they get there. The reason for the detour is bridge replacement. They have been building a 150 foot long span along side the existing bridge that they plan drop and then slip the new span in it’s place in less than 3 days. Almost like snapping a piece of race car track together. So I guess a three day head ache is better than a 3 month or longer head ache dealing with daily single lane traffic patterns and other restrictions.
