It’s the Kielbasa Kid…

…now in my 43rd year of being on the radio playing all the hits for you wherever you may be which is a line from the Harry Chapin song WOLD. The story of the morning DJ in anytown U.S.A. I played my share of the hits during my career and I’m still playing playing them although their classic hits today, so you might say I’ve gone full circle. I probably should have saved this rant for February when I will be celebrating 44 years in the business and actually started to type something else relating to music but this is what happened to come out of my fingers while typing and figured why not just go with it. It’s been an interesting ride from city to city that I will always cherish from the first time I played a 45 rpm record to laying the tone arm down on an album trying to make sure I’m playing cut 4 and not cut 3 from side one of a 33 1/3rd rpm record. Now all our music is on a computer screen which has made life real easy for the DJ since I don’t have to file them away after playing them. The only thing I miss is not being able to hold the actual album or CD anymore especially the album since the print was much larger and contained a lot of interesting facts within the liner notes plus if you had a question about the lyric’s 9 times out of 10 they would be included plus the art work was something to behold. At one time you could buy frames for albums you thought deserved to be hung on a wall which sometimes ended up on the studio wall frame or no frame. Sometimes a poster would be included and those always ended up on the wall which would change with the season or with whatever new album contained a cooler poster than what we would currently have hanging. But yeah, radio what a fun job it’s been and one I never really considered a job because it’s something I’ve always looked forward to doing and continue to till this day. Knock on wood!
