Two outta three aint bad…

…and no I’m not talking Meatloaf I’m talking Tribute bands. I’ve seen two that were spot on the 3rd well, like I said two outta three ain’t bad. The latest was the best so far, Cold Hard Cash a tribute to Johnny Cash. The Show was at Mr. Smalls in Millvale last Friday night and while I thought he sounded good from what I saw on You Tube, seeing the show live was like actually seeing the Man in Black. His voice was spot on, his appearance was that of a Joaquin Phoenix from the movie I walk The Line and the stage show was what I could only imagine a Johnny Cash show to be since I’ve never seen Johnny Cash live and his TV show back in the ‘70’s doesn’t count. The music spanned his entire career to even cover songs that Cash was doing toward the end of his life from 9 Inch Nails to Depeche Mode. The other tribute band which was also spot on was CSN Songs at the State Theater in Uniontown who not only covered CSNY but also the music from the various bands they were in before 1969 from Buffalo Springfield to the Hollies and the Byrds. While I’ve always loved comedians who could do impersonations of famous people I’m starting to appreciate musicians who can impersonate famous bands and artists. I know Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell sang Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing but for Classic Rockers it’s the next best thing.
